Temperatures and rainy days are long-term averages from the climate table on Wikipedia’s Da Lat article, based on Vietnamese meteorological data. Any single week can be warmer, colder or wetter.
Dry season: November to April
The dry months bring blue skies and the coldest nights. January and February average only about 2 to 3 rainy days, and March has the most sunshine of the year, about 240 hours. Nights drop to around 11.7°C on average in January, so bring a warm jacket even though the afternoons feel like spring.
Rainy season: May to October
From May to October, most months see rain on 20 days or more. September is the wettest, with about 283 mm over roughly 24 rainy days. Plan each day with an indoor option, pack a light rain jacket and wear shoes with a good grip: Da Lat’s slopes and steps get slippery when wet. In return the hills are green, and this is cloud season: a photographer interviewed by VnExpress rates June to the end of August as the best time to see the sea of clouds over the valleys at dawn.
Best time to visit Da Lat
- For sunshine and walking: January to March, the driest stretch.
- For flowers: cherry blossoms (mai anh đào) usually from late December to mid-January, according to VnExpress; jacaranda in March and April, according to Thanh Niên; wild sunflowers (dã quỳ) from late October to late November and pink grass (cỏ hồng) from early November to the end of December, both according to VnExpress. Bloom dates shift with each year’s weather.
- For festivals: the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival runs from 19 to 31 December 2026, according to VTV; see Da Lat in December.
- To avoid crowds: skip the Lunar New Year (Tết; 6 February in 2027), the 30 April–1 May holidays and the 2 September National Day holiday. VnExpress also calls May to September a peak season, when Vietnamese families come up to escape the heat, so book summer weekends early.
Is Da Lat cold?
The days are mild; the nights are what catch visitors out, especially from December to February. The record lows are just below freezing, in January (-0.1°C) and February (-0.6°C), but an average night stays well above that, around 11.7°C at its coldest. Because a day swings by 6.5°C to 12.1°C between the average high and low, depending on the month, layers work better than one heavy coat. What to bring for each month is in our guide to what to wear in Da Lat.
